"The Man in Me"
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Exibition
I see this piece as a reflection on my life, on my successes, on my friends and family, and on my own perspective of myself. This piece is also based on the present and near planned future, since I see myself in two worlds at most times. I am usually either trying to live the moment, or trying to figure out how I will turn out in my later year. And the most common of questions I inquire to myself is “Will I still be around the people I am around, right now or will they be gone?”.
Planning
I plan to make a surrealist themed art work because it allows me to have a creative freedom, and metaphorical perspective. The concept that I will cover is my purpose n this world, which are many as they include being a boyfriend, a friend, a brother, a son, a student, and a teacher. There will be no separations in my piece, because it will be me how I see myself on the left being pulled in different directions by exterior forces which is what affects me and they represent love, family, school, games, etc. and on the middle to the right is the people that I affect watching.

Inspiration
My inspiration is René Magritte's "The Future of Statues" because of the meaning behind it, since many people show different answers since it was a ready made art work. It was a Napoleon death mask with the sky painted on it could mean that after death comes heaven, but to me it means that death is as inevitable as seeing the sky, but one must deal with it as the face seems to be at peace. I liked this piece because of the many meanings it seems to invoke and I wish to replicate the same sort of response. I also enjoyed that René put the title "The Future of Statues" since many people believe that it has no significance or correlation towards his work, but I believe it does as he is exploring a new art style such as the ready made, and the title refers to the future in art considering the abstractness in them.
My other artist inspiration is Claude Monet and his "San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk" and "Le Parlement" paintings. What I like from these impressionist styled paintings is that they bend warm and cool hues together. This technique is what I found most interesting in his paintings because it feels contradictory since warm and cool colors do not get mixed that often but in impressionism the freedom of expression through color is greatly used as it is demonstrated by Monet in his works.
This inspired the background of my art work since I roughly blended the pink with the blue to make a soft purple with blue and pink highlights. I enjoy the brush work too, where its softly blended, while still being clean and clear in transition.
Process
I begin by making making canvas, then I applied gesso to the canvas and I let it dry. After it dries, I begin to apply big patches of blue in different areas of the canvas. Then I put a mix of red and pink (mostly pink) to the rest of the canvas, and I roughly blend them together. If the color blended to well, and turn a flat even color, I would add more pink and/or blue. I would then continuously add more layers of blue, red, and pink to further highlight the contrast of the two hues.
Experimentation
The experimentation was in the blending process as it was difficult to get such colors to mix together in a soft way, especially because I didn't want to make a flat and even color. I struggled with this because I was trying to mimic the impressionist style. The technique involves putting both hue's on the canvas and gently mixing them together just enough where you can see a general color with a hint of the individual colors.
Act Questions
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork:
The inspiration had caused me to create a bright colorful painting that reflects the impressionist style, which is a main component of the art work itself, and it also caused me to create a more representative piece, than a detail oriented piece.
What is the overall approach (pov) the author (from research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The author's perspectives is very informative and monotone, as it only states the facts.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
The conclusion I came two was that artist movements
What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central idea of my research is the meaning of the art more than the actual look of it, as my art piece is more a representation of myself, and it has meaning.
